The Archive Undying is the first volume of Emma Mieko Candon's Downworld Sequence, a sci-fi series where AI deities and brutal police states clash, wielding giant robots steered by pilot-priests with corrupted bodies.
The world building is splendid but I found many of the motivations/sentiments of the characters to be described in a very confusing way. It is not unlikely that this is more of a me problem and not on the author at all.
